Zero Box Lodge - Quirky Concept Hotel In Porto With A Live Art Installation

ZERO Box Lodge is not just another budget hotel. Located right in the heart of beautiful Port, ZERO is a self-proclaimed “ground-breaking experience”. How so?

Let’s start with the basics. There are three types of rooms or “boxes”, as they call them here. Zero is a windowless room with a private bathroom and a double bed. One is basically a Zero but with a window, and Two is a bigger, comfier version of One. If you want to grab a bite or a drink, there are two restaurants in the hotel and three bars, including a rooftop bar.

So far, so good? Well, this is where it gets interesting. Two is more than just a double room. It also features a punching bag and a pair of leather boxing gloves, turning it into your private gym. On top of that, all the other rooms are equipped with a snorkeling kit. You can use your snorkel in the water tank on the rooftop – there are some surprises waiting for you underwater.

Not weird enough? How about an old safe filled with zero dollar bills? A bookshop, Bookstop, that only stores books by a Portuguese author, Gonçalo M. Tavares? Then there is the welcome beer with a custom-made label you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Lastly, the mysterious art characters are explicitly created for ZERO by artist Paulo Rammuni.

But the most bizarre and exciting concept at ZERO is their Free Room. Here, anyone with a creative and cheeky idea can stay for free… if they’re ok with being part of a living installation. Free Room is, in fact, a glass-walled box at the entrance of the hotel so prepare for peeping Toms spying on you all night. Would you do it?
