Quinta da Pacheca, a luxurious wine estate hotel in the city of Lamego, is one of the most worthwhile destinations in Portugal, especially since it has introduced its unique wine barrel-shaped accommodations.
The quirky oversized barrel rooms were inspired by a visit to Port wine cellars, where the owners of Quinta da Pacheca saw the barrels so big they joked about sleeping in them.
The landscape around the wine estate is stunning, and you get a spectacular view from Quinta da Pacheca, which spans 57 hectares, encompassing the Alto Douro Wine Region and the river. Here, you can enjoy a complete wine experience package, from grape harvesting to relaxation, with a glass of quality wine in your hand.

Designed by architect Henrique Pinto, the Wine House Hotel at Quinta da Pacheca offers one of the best and most interesting accommodations in the Douro region.

It includes a main building called the Wine House Hotel, ten luxury suites housed in wine barrels known as Wine Barrels, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa, a restaurant serving signature cuisine, a wine-tasting room, a wine shop, and eight impressive wineries where the world-renowned Pacheca wines are produced.

This estate, dating back to the 18th century, has lived through almost three centuries. It is one of the oldest wineries in the region.

Despite being restored a few years ago, it continues to maintain its original architecture and features.

You can participate in a guided tour of the vineyards, mills, and wine cellar during your stay.

The tour will end with tasting four Quinta da Pacheca wines (two Douro and two Port wines), accompanied by homemade jam and cheese from the region.

Quinta da Pacheca, one of the most renowned estates in the Douro region, was among the first to bottle wine under its own label.

It was first documented in April 1738, referred to as "Pacheca" after the owner's name, D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira.

The barrel room's furniture matches the exterior's rounded shapes.

It's equipped with a private bathroom, air conditioning, flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, a porthole above the bed to admire the stars, and a glass front facing the vineyards.

On these comfortable rounded beds, you wake up with a view of the Douro valley, and you can fall asleep looking at the stars.

After only a couple of months of welcoming its first guests in 2018, the wine barrel rooms won the "Best Development" award at the Lisbon Real Estate Show.

These luxurious double suites, inspired by barrels, measure 35 square meters (377 square feet) and feature a skylight for stargazing, a deck overlooking the vineyards, and custom-made furniture.

In 2020, the hotel opened an elegant spa equipped with an indoor pool, sauna & Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, tropical shower with lavender mist, and a series of therapeutic and well-being treatments.

Plus, a new 17 by 5 meter (56 x 16 feet) outdoor swimming pool was installed for the hot summer days.
