The Upper House Hong Kong - Understated Luxury

Location:

Hong Kong Hong Kong East Asia
DesignLuxury

The Upper House is named so because it sits on top of Pacific Place, a shopping complex in Hong Kong. The hotel’s 117 studios and suites are spacious, decorated with natural materials like glass, wood, limestone, and gorgeous bathrooms.

While not lavish and grandiose, The Upper House offers tons of space, even for the standard room offerings. The huge bathrooms are wonderful, and every room has an excellent selection of amenities, including free snacks and drinks (including beer) and a yoga mat. In addition, complimentary yoga sessions are held on The Lawn on Saturday and Sunday mornings for guests to make use of their yoga mats. Opt for a penthouse and enjoy a gorgeous panorama view of both the harbor and the city from your living room and two bedrooms with bathrooms.

The Upper House is sleek and simple. There’s no pool and no spa. You won’t find deep rich fabrics and gold dripping from the ceilings. Instead, the Upper House offers a kind of practical luxury. There is a small gym for guests to use. The hotel also has two bikes for guests to borrow at their leisure.

Care to explore the city? Take a spin around Hong Kong in one of the three Lexus RX450h and a BMW i3 The Upper House offers. The hotel is environmentally friendly, and these hybrid cars are further examples of their initiatives to care for our planet.

If you’re hungry, there’s one restaurant, Café Gray Deluxe, which offers stunning views from the 49th floor. The Sky Lounge is also on the 49th floor and offers snacks throughout the day.

Maison Mystique - A Thai Hotel So Wes Anderson It Hurts

Maison Mystique does not announce itself. It accumulates - vine-draped archways, a hidden whisky lounge behind a door that gives nothing away, glass domes of preserved butterflies frozen mid-flutter - until the place stops feeling like a hotel and starts feeling like a house that has been quietly waiting for …

The Warehouse Hotel, Singapore - Secret Societies, Opium Dens, and Cocktails That Map the Past

In the 1890s, this building on Robertson Quay was ground zero for Singapore's red-light district, a hub for opium dens, gambling houses, and Chinese secret societies who demanded 36 sacred oaths from new recruits. The street was known in Hokkien as "Chiu Long Lo" – Spirits Shed Street – after …

Bawah Reserve - Adrift in the Anambas: Indonesia's Most Remote Luxury Escape

Kisawa Sanctuary - The Mozambique Resort Partnering with Ocean Research

On a wild stretch of Benguerra Island, where sand dunes roll into the Indian Ocean and dugongs graze offshore seagrass meadows, Kisawa Sanctuary has built something unusual: luxury villas incorporating 3D printing technology, staffed largely by locals, and driven by a commitment to marine science. Wild Hill, Kenya - The Safari Lodge That Grew Out Of A Bean Farm

There's a secret door built into a hillside in Kenya. Step through it, walk a short tunnel, and you emerge to one of the most disorienting views in East Africa: a vast, golden sweep of Maasai Mara plains stretching 2,000 feet (610 meters) below you, lit by shafts of afternoon …
