You’ve got business class, world traveler class, first-class, premium class; well this must be called super awesome class. Yes, in fact, that is what I’m calling it from now on. So take a ride in Singapore Airline’s new ‘Super Awesome Class’. *

Let’s start with your leather armchair, it is handmade by Poltrona Frau and reclines to a comfortable bed-position. Or you could just book a suite with a bed and an armchair. Your entertainment system is a 23-inch LCD TV; I just hope they provide decent quality headphones… I’m sure they do. Food-wise, if you imagine a luxury restaurant in the sky then you are not far from the truth – it’s all designer tableware and vintage Pinot Noir.

If you are a business passenger, there is space for a meeting room, a power supply for your laptop, and luxury toiletries for you to use in the extra-large washrooms. Your individual cubical is complete with sliding doors and blinds giving you loads of privacy. It reminds me of a time I flew first class with BA, I didn’t want to get off the plane. And that was just piffling first-class – imagine how you would feel in super awesome class.

*I’m sure Singapore Airlines would like to emphasize that their on-board suites are simply called that. Even though, they admit, they are super awesome.

Grand Hyatt at SFO - Sky-High Comfort: Inside San Francisco Airport's Only On-Site Hotel

Most airport hotels are functional in the way that airport food is functional - they'll do the job, but nobody is bragging about them at dinner. The Grand Hyatt at SFO is something else entirely. Opened in late 2019 on the grounds of San Francisco International Airport, it is the …

Corendon Amsterdam - A Boeing 737 in Your Bedroom and a Hammam Downstairs

Most hotels stake their identity on a lobby artwork or a rooftop bar. Corendon Amsterdam New-West went a different route and installed the front half of a real Boeing 737 on the seventh floor. That alone would be enough to earn the place a mention, but the hotel turns out …

Manga Art Hotel - Lost in 5,000 Comics at a Tokyo Capsule Hotel

Most hotels put considerable energy into helping you sleep. Blackout curtains, pillow menus, turndown service - the whole apparatus of hospitality exists, in large part, to knock you unconscious as efficiently as possible. Manga Art Hotel Tokyo has a different ambition. Located on the upper floors of a building in …

ZERO Box Lodge Coimbra - The Coimbra Garage with Andy Warhol on the Ramps

The reception desk at ZERO Box Lodge in Coimbra is a motorbike. The check-in process involves a cold beer, handed to you on arrival, and the quiet suggestion that the best thing you can do now is go outside. The rooms are stripped back by design - no windows, no …

Auberge Aux 4 Vents - The Swiss Hotel Where You Can Take a Bath Outdoors - From the Second Floor

Between Fribourg's medieval rooftops and a park full of century-old beeches, a renovated 17th-century manor is doing something quietly remarkable. Auberge aux 4 Vents is not a boutique hotel in the algorithmic sense - all reclaimed wood and oat milk. It is something older and stranger: a patrician country manor …

Domaine des Etangs, Auberge Collection - Deep in the Charente, a Medieval Castle Reinvents Itself

Somewhere in the Charente countryside of southwest France, on a 1,000-hectare (2,500-acre) estate of forests, lakes, and open pastureland, there is a tennis court floating on a pond. There is also a 13th-century castle tower where you can sleep beneath a glass ceiling and look up at the stone ribs …

Hana-Maui Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Residence - The Far Side of Maui

Most resorts want you to stay on property. Hana-Maui Resort wants you to stay in a different way entirely - unhurried, untethered, and largely offline. Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve - Stars, and Shells at Saudi Arabia's Most Remote Resort
