Red Caboose Motel in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, is a place with a history. In fact, so much history that there’s an entire book devoted to the place (you can pick it up in the gift shop). Long story short, it all started when Donald M. Denlinger placed a half-hearted bid on nineteen cabooses being sold by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1969.
To his surprise, he was the highest bidder and one year later became the owner of the unique motel that’s attracted thousands of rail enthusiasts since then.
You can start small with an 11m2 Couples Caboose or go big with a Large Family Caboose with a double bed and four bunk beds (and by big, I mean 19m2). If you want to mix things up, there’s also a spacious Mail Car, Baggage Car, or a romantic Honeymoon Caboose with a jacuzzi bath.
Love rail but don’t necessarily want to sleep in a wagon? No problem. There are a few suites in a nearby historic farmhouse for guests just like you.
With a population of just 3000, Strasburg is full of surprises. Only 5 minutes away, you can find the Sight & Sound Theatres and American Music Theatre, which not only does original musical revue shows but also hosts top head-lining entertainment acts throughout the year. Of course, there is plenty of family fun to be had at Red Caboose too.
Your kids can learn all about Amish life on a buggy ride, play arcade games, make friends with alpacas at the petting zoo or ride Red Caboose Express. Then, the entire family can unwind with a movie screening and some popcorn at the end of the day. Talking about that wholesome fun, right?
