The Mirante do Gaviao Amazo is located in a unique spot where the road ends and nature begins. Nestled on the banks of the dark-colored Rio Negro, this resort, with its boat-shaped houses, harmonizes luxury, sustainability, and adventure in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. It fosters a deep connection and exploration of one of the world's most biodiverse regions.
The Mirante do Gaviao is in the northern tip of a small town called Novo Airao, about 2.5-3 hours drive from Manaus, the capital of the Amazonas state, which has the only major airport. From here, you have quick access to explore the wilderness of the Anavilhanas and Jaú National Parks and see the rare and exotic pink river dolphins.

Anavilhanas National Park, which is the world's largest river archipelago, is home to rare animal species like jaguars, giant otters, caimans, and giant armadillos.

The park is part of the Central Amazon Conservation Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and plays a vital role in protecting the Amazon biome through environmental education and sustainable tourism.

For wildlife spotting, you don't even have to leave the town. The lodge's name, which translates to "falcon observatory," is apt, as these birds are frequently spotted from the property, along with sloths and iguanas.

The bungalows at the lodge are constructed from sustainably harvested wood and designed to harmonize with the Amazon's natural color palette.

These structures, which look like upside-down riverboats, were created by the talented architect firm Atelier O'Reilly, based in Carapicuíba, Brazil.

The eco-friendly lodge uses every possible modern solution to minimize its impact on nature with rainwater collection, energy production through photovoltaics, water heating, and organic gardening.

Camu-Camu Restaurant

The Camu Camu Restaurant overlooks the Rio Negro, and you can taste here a mix of regional flavors, incorporating locally sourced fresh fruits, nuts, prawns, and fish.

The lodge has 13 accommodations with en-suite bathrooms, terraces, living rooms, minibars, and air conditioning. They are split into three categories: Luxury, Premium, and the biggest is the Tree House.

Inside, the light-filled interiors use natural fibers, wood, and basketry, completed by regional crafts from artisans of the local riverside communities working under the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation.

If you are looking for a thrilling adventure, the resort organizes sightseeing tours focused on spotting alligators or going on a piranha fishing trip.

The wildlife viewing excursions, both on foot and by boat, are led by knowledgeable local nature guides. You can also visit native communities, explore interpretative trails in the forest, and go on tours to the Madadá Caves.
