There’s been a Game of Thrones musical, Game of Thrones-themed bar, and people have even thrown GoT weddings… so it’s certainly time for a Game of Thrones-inspired hotel! And not just any hotel. The SnowVillage from Lapland Hotels is a seasonal snow retreat built from scratch every year using snow and natural ice to create everything from walls and furniture to lighting and art. The theme changes every year, and the season 2017/2018 was dedicated to the famous book and TV series. What a way to honor the Songs of Ice and Fire!
Although a sleepover in an ice hotel might sound more like a sophisticated form of torture than a luxurious getaway, the snow suites at SnowVillage are surprisingly cozy. You’ll be tucked tightly into an extra thick thermal sleeping bag, and you’ll start your morning with a warming hot berry juice. Plus, you’ll get to spend a night in a unique work of art that only exists for one season. That’s got to be worth enduring some cold!
Apart from snow suites, the SnowVillage also features an ice restaurant and ice bar with more creative ice carvings. If you get sick of sub-zero temperatures, head to the cozy log restaurant where you can enjoy Lapland specials such as reindeer meat or forest mushroom. Despite the remote location in the Finnish forest, there are quite a few activities to choose from at SnowVillage: husky safari, snowmobiles, cross-country skiing, and, of course, ice sculpting. All winter-related, though, so you have to really embrace the cold!
