In the heart of Austrian Tyrol, there’s a hotel that somehow seamlessly combines rustic farm life with eccentric luxury. From the typically Tyrolean pine building itself to female staff wearing traditional dirndl dresses, it’s clear that tradition is deep-rooted at Stanglwirt. Owned by the family Hauser since 1722, the hotel has a strong ethos of homeliness. As you walk down the corridors, both staff and other guests will greet you with a friendly “Morgen” and a smile.
In line with the homely atmosphere, the rooms are ridiculously cozy and charming. Pinewood is everywhere: on the floor, on the ceiling, and making every piece of beautifully ornate furniture. There are no bad choices here, but if you can splurge, pick a one or two-bedroom suite. I mean, an in bathroom-sauna and a sun terrace with stunning views of the Wilder Kaiser? Can’t pass on that.
The spa and wellness facilities at Stanglwirt are hard to beat. Pine and stone saunas, steam baths, seven pools, and comfy cabanas for sunbathing during the summer months. All this sounds great in itself but now imagine it with the backdrop of Tyrolean mountains. Pretty dreamy.
