Located just north of San Diego in the small beach town of Del Mar, this hotel is a world of pleasure. Your room is large and has a bar, Nespresso machine, balcony, and stunning bathroom – more like an apartment than a hotel room. I have even heard a rumor that their turn-down service includes boxes of truffles and chocolate-covered Oreos.
Every day there are exercise routines run by experienced teachers including hiking, yoga, and surfing. The hotel also has three-bed villas that are built in the style of old Florida, with Venetian plaster walls and antique furniture; and for that “wow” factor, they also have sunken Jacuzzis and outdoor fireplaces. The spa is enormous and has a child-free pool, sauna, steam room and numerous treatments available.
The fine-dining restaurant is called Addison has accolades stacked to the rafters; the cuisine is contemporary French using the best locally-sourced ingredients and menu highlights include coffee-roasted duck and Mission fig marmalade. Nearby is the 4,100-acre Los Penasquitos nature reserve which you can explore on foot, bike, or horseback.
