Disney Explorers Lodge - 1920s Adventure-Themed Hotel in Hong Kong's DisneylandDisney Explorers
Lodge

The Disney Explorers Lodge is the largest hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland. It features a mystical travel adventure theme based on the Age of Exploration in the early 1920s. The lodge is divided into four themed lands: Asia, Pacific Islands, South America, and Africa.

China's first Disneyland opened in 2005 at the northeastern tip of Lantau Island after a successful cooperation between the Hong Kong government and The Walt Disney Company. It took over a decade for China's second Disneyland to open in Shanghai, making HK Disneyland the go-to theme park for millions of people.

To avoid cultural insensitivity, the park was constructed with careful consideration of Chinese cultural characteristics.

Designers adhered to the rules of feng shui, and the lucky numbers of Chinese numerology were used as often as possible (especially the number 8). The number 4 was avoided as much as possible, even going so far as to label the fourth floor as the fifth floor in hotels.

Walt Disney Imagineering designed Hong Kong Disneyland, which was based on the original 1954 plan for Disneyland in California. The project included four lands: Main Street USA, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland.

Over the years, extra theme parks were added: Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, Toy Story Land, and World of Frozen.

As is often the case with Disney hotels, the Disney Explorers Lodge has a backstory: In 1920, four explorers constructed a hotel to display craftsmanship and exhibit specimens they brought back from around the world.
