Cugó Gran Macina Malta

Cugó Gran Macina Hotel was built inside the 16th-century fortifications of Senglea

Originally constructed in 1554 during the reign of Claude de la Sengle, Grand Knight of Malta, the building was intended to serve the knights' ships. For centuries, it stood as an iconic landmark of the Grand Harbour, and it has now been beautifully converted into a hotel.

Cugó Gran Macina Rooftop Pool From Above

Interestingly, the name "Cugó" references a steel crane that once occupied the site

The structure's form remains unchanged, but its function has evolved over time. Originally, it served as the city's defensive walls, then became a shipyard. In the 1970s, it was converted into the headquarters of the Malta Labour Party, and today, it operates as a boutique hotel called Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour.

Cugó Gran Macina Limestone Walls

The designs by the Maltanese Edwin Mintoff Architects and the interior design firm DAAA Haus have shaped the character of this hotel by blending modern elements with the site's historical context.

Cugó Gran Macina Lobby

The property has preserved its vaulted ceilings and limestone walls, creating new bright spaces.

Cugó Gran Macina High-Ceiling Room

Each of the 21 suites at the Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour Hotel has a unique character and ranges in size from 40 to 130 square meters.

The rooms and suites follow Scandinavian interior design aesthetics, with minimalism and quality looks. They are fitted with Italian custom-made beds, sofas, wool rugs, and high-quality materials like Carrara marble, lava stone, bleached oak, and steel.

Cugó Gran Macina Harbor View Suite

All suites are tastefully furnished with meticulous attention to detail, including comfortable sitting areas and well-equipped kitchenettes.

Cugó Gran Macina Hotel Suite

The smallest accommodations, Corner Suites, are in the annex at the front of the building. These suites have large windows with views of the harbor while ensuring excellent privacy.

Cugó Gran Macina Harbor Facing Work Desk by the Window

The Presidential Suites and the Macina Grand Harbour Suite can accommodate up to 6 people. They have multi-level layouts and super-high ceilings, giving you better views and panoramas.

Cugó Gran Macina Rooftop Terrace
Cugó Gran Macina Rooftop Pool
