1. The Mark Hotel

The Mark Hotel is situated in a 1927 Renaissance Revival-style building on the corner of Madison Avenue and 77th Street. It is just a block away from Central Park on the Upper East Side and is within a short distance of one of the best museums in the world, MoMA.

The Mark Hotel

While many rooms and suites have fantastic city/Townhouse garden views, the only three types with a Central Park panorama are:

• The 1,640 square feet Two Bedroom Premiere Suite on the 9 through 12th floors
• The 3,300 square feet Mark Signature Suite on the 10th/12th floor (although there is only a partial Central Park view!)
• The 10,000 square feet (including 2,500 square feet of rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park) Mark Suite on the top, 16th floor / 17th floor

Its most famous accommodation is The Mark Penthouse, designed by Jacques Grange. It occupies two floors—the 16th and 17th—and spans over 10,000 square feet, making it the largest hotel suite in the United States. The penthouse's 2,500-square-foot private terrace overlooks the Manhattan skyline, Central Park, and the MoMA.

Fun fact: if you are a pet owner, this is the most dog-friendly hotel in Manhattan, with a bespoke 'spoiled dogs menu' by Jean-Georges.

2. The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

The Carlyle was opened in 1930 and was named after the British essayist Thomas Carlyle. It's the other of only two options if you want to stay in Manhattan's Upper East Side in a hotel with a Central Park view. Like the Mark Hotel, it's on Madison Avenue, but one street lower on the 76th.

The most affordable option to see the world-famous park from your room is the Rosewood Suite. Plus, there are three more uber-luxurious suites:

• Rosewood Suite - 600 square feet (56 square meters) | floors 23-33 | up to two guests
• Central Park Suite - 1,200 square feet (111 square meters) | floors 27-33 | up to three guests
• Empire Suite - 2,600 square feet (241 square meters) | duplex on floors 28/29 | up to seven guests
• Presidential Suite - 2,722 square feet (253 square meters) | floor 26 | up to eight guests

Besides the brilliant green panorama, The Carlyle is famous for hosting every American president since Harry S. Truman.

President John F. Kennedy had an apartment there, and it is rumored that his affair with Marilyn Monroe took place within its walls. It's no wonder because the hotel's privacy rules and discretion make it an ideal retreat for high-profile guests.

  1. The Pierre - A Taj Hotel - New York

The Pierre Hotel is tucked in the southeast edge of Central Park, at the crossing of 2 East 61st Street and Fifth Avenue. It was opened in 1930, the same year as The Carlyle.

To keep up with guest demands, the hotel underwent a $100 million refurbishment in 2009 after being purchased by the Indian-based Taj Hotels group in 2005.

Like other landmark luxury hotels in New York City, The Pierre was also featured in movies such as The Scent of a Woman, Meet Joe Black, and Gossip Girl.

4. The Sherry-Netherland

The Sherry-Netherland Hotel is in the same southeast corner of Central Park as the Pierre, at the meeting point of Fifth Avenue and 59th Street. It is housed in a gorgeous  560-foot (171-meter) tall, 38-story tower decorated with stone griffins.

It was one of those luxury hotels that still had parties going on during the alcohol prohibition period in the late '20s and early '30s, as it was opened to welcome guests in 1927.

Although the Sherry-Netherland has only 50 hotel rooms and suites, thanks to its killer location, all Western-facing rooms and high-floor Northern-facing rooms have views of Central Park.

5. The St. Regis Hotel New York

The St. Regis Hotel New York is one of the farthest (four blocks) from Central Park in this list, but partially, it's facing in the right direction. Its 20-storey landmark building, completed in 1904, is located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 55th Street (Central Park begins at 59th Street).

6. The Plaza

New York's iconic five-star hotel opens from the prestigious Central Park South Street, right in front of the world-famous Billionaires' Row, where some of the wealthiest people in the world live in skinny, supertall skyscrapers.

Contradictory to its stately appearance inside and outside, The Plaza has its fun side. As one of the shooting locations of Home Alone's sequel, "Lost in New York," you can opt for an experience package to follow Kevin's footsteps in his adventure in the big city.

Another hotel on the first row of Central Park is Park Lane, New York. It's one of four hotels on Central Park South Street with a view of the park. The high-end luxury hotel was designed by Emery Roth & Sons, and it opened in 1971. The 46-story modernist tower has unobstructed panoramic views of Central Park through its sleek black windows.

All of Park Lane Hotel's room types have Central Park view versions. The ones with a good view are called "Park View," and the ones with the best views are the "Panoramic Park View." In many cases, you can choose between the two.

9. The Ritz-Carlton New York - Central Park

One of only four properties on the first row overlooking Central Park is The Ritz-Carlton New York, located at 50 Central Park South. Originally, it was called the Hotel St. Moritz and was designed and built in 1930 by the Hungarian-born architect Emery Roth.

The 365-foot (111-meter) tall hotel has 253 west—and north-facing (Central Park) rooms, including 47 high-class suites spread over 33 floors. It's one of the best hotels to stay in for a park view. 13. Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan Central Park

Although it's the hotel that's farthest away from Central Park (five blocks, to be exact) and only offers partial views, it's on the list because of its relative affordability. If you cannot splurge on a first-row seat with a full-on panorama, this is a great option to consider.

If you book a room at Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan Central Park, you will sleep in the tallest hotel in the Americas. The 1717 Broadway skyscraper houses 639 rooms across 68 floors and was inaugurated in 2013.

The hotel's location is fantastic. It's on the corner of Broadway and 54th Street, making it perfect for anyone who wants to be in the middle of the buzz but not too far from Central Park's vast greenery, including lakes.

14. Mandarin Oriental New York

One of the most luxurious propositions is Mandarin Oriental's hotel at Columbus Circle, in the southwestern corner of Central Park. The entrance to New York's famous park here is through Merchants' Gate, where 4 million people enter annually.

The Mandarin Oriental New York, with its 198 guestrooms, is housed in the northern part of a modern twin tower. Its level of luxury is best described by the indoor swimming pool overlooking New York's skyline. But you can also have a suite where the bathroom (with a bathtub!) has a Central Park view.

After an extensive renovation between 1995 and 1997, it still appears fresh. The hotel has 176 rooms (35 standard rooms & 141 suites), and all feature floor-to-ceiling windows, so the view of Central Park is spectacular.

16. West Side YMCA

It's the Kinder surprise in the list of all these luxurious hotels because the West Side YMCA is an affordable hostel with some private rooms. YMCAs (Young Men's Christian Association) around the world offer accommodations in hostels to generate income for their charitable activities.

The West Side YMCA is by far the cheapest option for a room with a Central Park view. The rooms with the panorama are located on the higher floors.

Depending on the season and many other factors, this room can be had for around $155 a night.
